Personification paragraph

Due to the use of personification from Simon’s point of view you can get an idea of the genuine fear Simon has built up for this mountain. Just before Simon is to descend down the ice cliff he is overwhelmed by the need to get off the mountain and not succumb to its unforgiving environment. “I was determined now to get off the mountain alive. It wasn’t taking me as well. After seeing the height of the fall that Joe would have endured, Simon is convinced that Joe is dead and that the mountain has taken Joe’s life. A short time later Simon’s mindset would change and he would instead deem himself the one responsible for his friends terrible fate. Simon feels as though he must escape the mountain before it hunts him down as well. Simon refers to the mountain as a living being trying to take his life.
